The Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) administers Bevonomics, a personal money management education program for students at The University of Texas at Austin. The Bevonomics program provides information and resources, which empower students to make financially responsible decisions. Bevonomics workshops help increase awareness of consumer debt while expanding the knowledge and importance of daily money management.
PROGRAM GOALS
Provide students with accurate and practical personal financial management information.
Increase awareness of the basic vocabulary, concepts, and business practices of the banking and credit industries. Prepare students to evaluate and execute financial transactions such as securing a credit card or opening a checking account.
Assist students to develop comprehensive daily and monthly spending plans.
Increase awareness of the various sources of income and expenses. Explain the procedures and methods that are involved in creating a budget. Provide recommendations on how to maintain budgeting as a life-long activity.
Provide students with practical recommendations on how to reduce expenses.
Recommend activities on and off campus that require little or no financial commitment. Provide suggestions on how to reduce unnecessary discretionary spending. Suggest methods to live within their budgetary limit.
